Good news for refugee counselling services: Federal program remains at a stable level
An important positive development is emerging in the area of advice and support for refugees: In the government's draft federal budget for 2027, the budget line item "Federal program for advice and support of foreign refugees" is provided with a total of 11,639 million euros.
This means that funding in the coming fiscal year will be the same as in 2026. This is a significant signal for the numerous projects, psychosocial centers, counseling centers, and associations that work daily to support refugees.

In recent years, the government's draft budget regularly proposed a reduction in funding to €7,139 million. Only later in the budget process, through joint efforts and intensive political negotiations, were increases achieved. The fact that no cuts are planned for 2027 in the government's draft budget is therefore a significant success for the joint advocacy efforts.
This success demonstrates the effectiveness of our continuous efforts. Our heartfelt thanks go to all the PSZs, projects, associations, and supporters who have worked with great dedication to maintain and strengthen the federal programs.
At the same time, the need in practice remains high. The planned funds do not yet fully reflect the diverse challenges and the actual support needs on the ground. Therefore, we are continuing our efforts: In discussions with members of the German Bundestag and the responsible ministry, at specialist events, and during the action week for federal programs, we will continue to draw attention to the importance of reliable funding.
Together, we are committed to ensuring that refugees continue to have access to qualified advice, support and psychosocial guidance.
